While the European automotive market experienced a significant slump in the second half of 2018 - diesel crisis, technical upheaval, fears of brexit and growing economic risks, to name but a few - the European ABS market continued to develop steadily at a growth rate of 1.3 %. With the exception of the UK, all markets reported higher transaction volumes for their new business. Most of the new transactions - almost half - came from Germany. The captives of the major manufacturers continue to dominate the market, led by Volkswagen, which further expanded its leading role in 2018 and now brought almost one third of all new car ABS transactions to market.
